Nearly Yearlong Westchester Bridge Repair Project Approaches Finish Line

After months of frustrations for residents and motorists traveling through Greenburgh, relief may be in sight as contracting crews near completion of a major bridge repair project.

Last summer, the New York State Department of Transportation kicked off an ambitious bridge repair project that resulted in the closure of the Payne Street Bridge, which has “caused significant inconveniences to residents who live on or near Payne Street in North Elmsford, according to Greenburgh Town Manager Paul Feiner.

According to the NYSDOT, contractors the contractor for the project is planning to continue work on the retaining abutment wall beginning in the second week of April, with work taking an estimated one month to complete. The entire project has an estimated completion date of June 1.

Feiner noted that a temporary traffic signal is being set up by the NYSDOT, which will allow alternating traffic on Payne Street during off hours at night. That signal is expected to be set up in the coming weeks before the project concludes.
